When it is getting close to the end of the year, it is important that you understand how much of your benefits you have used and how much you still have left. The benefits you can claim each year are reset on the first day of every year by most health funds. And most Australian Health Funds are generally more than happy to assist you get the most value from your cover.

For example, here is how you can plan for your child's Orthodontia treatment which may take three years to complete. Work together with your Dentist, Orthodontist and Health Fund to plan your child's treatment or billing around these annual benefit resets, i.e. 1st January each year. An appropriate schedule could be:

  1. Commence treatment on September of Year 1
  2. 1st January Extras – Major Dental reset for Year 2
  3. Ongoing treatment during Year 2
  4. 1st January Extras – Major Dental reset for Year 3
  5. Treatment complete

NOTE: Extras Major Dental usually have Lifetime limits, so make sure to consult with your Health Fund.

Regardless of whatever treatment you may be needing or seeking, this is a good opportunity to both ask your Health Fund for an update on the benefits you have claimed during the year, what benefit limits are still available and a checkup to see that you are on the most appropriate cover.

Here's to good health from the team at Anista Employee Benefits! 🙂
